We're excited to share that the Center for Infrastructure Assurance and Security (CIAS) at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) will be celebrating its 20th Anniversary this summer - the most senior of cybersecurity centers a UTSA! For 20 years, the CIAS has been engaged in promoting cybersecurity awareness and capabilities nationwide. And we are not done yet!
This past year has been difficult for many reasons. And bad actors have taken an active approach in finding vulnerabilities in home offices, school systems, small business, and local and state governments. As an example, cybercrime increased 600% during the COVID-19 pandemic, in part, due to phishing email scams and network vulnerabilities.
While many classic cyber attacks, such as phishing emails, are being used by cyber criminals, cyber threats will only become more sophisticated as time goes on. The CIAS has taken - and will continue to take - an active role in helping build secure communities to create a more secure nation.
Over the next year, we will be sharing some of our history, insights and experiences with cybersecurity training, information sharing, community exercises, our cyber defense competitions and K-12 educational resources that have been successfully implemented to create stronger defenses at home, school and work. We hope you will share your experiences with us too!
