Welcome to the webpage of Matt Gibson.

I am an assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Texas at San Antonio.  I work in the San Antonio Geometry Algorithms (SAGA) research lab, where we work on developing algorithms for image segmentation, digital geometry, visibility, and cloud computing.

There are currently two Ph.D. students and one Masters student working with me in the SAGA lab:

  • Safwa Ameer - Masters
  • Mohammad Shahedul Islam - Ph.D.
  • Serge Zamarripa - Ph.D.
  • Three Ph.D. students have graduated from the SAGA lab under my advisory:

  • Mahmuda Ahmed (co-advised with Dr. Carola Wenk)
  • Iffat Chowdhury
  • Qing Wang
  • I obtained my Ph.D. in computer science at the University of Iowa in 2010.  My advisor was Dr. Kasturi Varadarajan

Before joining UTSA, I was a postdoc in the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Iowa. As a postdoc, I researched new graph-based methods to be applied to problems arising in medical imaging with Dr. Xiaodong Wu and Dr. Milan Sonka.
